A New Leaf.

Just before the craziness of C3 dominated, over-hyped ACL Fest blows through Austin this week, it's not too late to turn over a newer "leaf." Carbon Leaf is back. If you're like me and don't have the 2-300 bones for a stub to the flower-powery, slightly gimmicky, none the less, world famous manicured mega Zilker Park grass stomp, you should drop into Antones Tuesday night to hear one of the greatest bands that gets no radio love, but generates enough sparks among their live witnesses to power a wave of internet radio lust. (To date this week, one small station in Corpus is the only radio airplay in the entire state of TX). Carbon Leaf goes from rootsy rock, to pop, folk, and back to indie infused charm in one short set. You'll be a fan before the merch booth is raided, guaranteed. Check my post show review at bandPedia if you can't make it. See you at the show.

Don't watch this video now...

Wait until you have 4 minutes. Then, watch this video. Assuming that all of this information is true...what is your favorite fact? Mine is "if Facebook were a country, it would be the 4th largest country in the world." Wow.

9-9-9...its a sign!!!

Well maybe not a "sign" like 12-21-12...you know, the end of the world according to Mayan calenders (and who do you know that doesn't have one of those hanging in the kitchen?). Anyway, my point is 09-09-09 is getting a bad deal. Where's the parties? The 99 cent gas promotions? The free downloads of Prince's 1999? C'mon! 08-08-08 was big deal last year, at least for about 1 billion Chinese people who claimed the day as the luckiest 24 hours in our lifetime. Or 07-07-07, lucky lucky lucky for all the non Asians, or peeps that couldn't wait for 08-08-08. And don't even try to compare this year with 06-06-06. So, yeah, I can't help but feeling "jipped" about today. I mean 10-10-10 is a year away, yet there's ALREADY a book out about it! I'd go see the animation masterpiece $9.99, but it's not in Austin yet!
Still, the website to promote this flick looks amazing. But, I digress. OK. It's almost 9:09pm and I'm going outside to howl at the moon...or something.

Googling with envy.

If you're a complete tech geek, live in Silicon Valley, have a over whelming urge to be the first on your street to go all Chrome on us, the Google Web Browser is being unleashed officially today on the market, and it's already carving up the other browser competition! CNET's newest poll, still taking reader feedback last time I checked earlier today, shows Firefox leading the market share (in reality, it's Internet Explorer still kicking ass...BUT The new Google Chrome is poised to TAKE OVER! Already 30 million peeps using this everyday, going to Chrome! That's more market share than Internet Explorer, Apple, and Opera combined according to CNET's real people poll here.
Windows users who want to simplify your online window shopping, the Chrome is a gratis download you gotta try.
Peace,
C

Two weeks from new Heap!

One of the uber cool artists to emerge from from the U.K. over the past several years has been Imogen Heap. (Hide & Seek still a song I rarely skip past on my ipod). So if your a Heap fan too, you'll be happy to hear the new Imogen Heap, "First Train Home" is out in 2 weeks! Wait for Austin radio to play it and you'll be in a retirement home by then, so go here to take the "First Train Home" and get on it! Actually, this track is so "radio-friendly" as they say, I can see it going on playlists before too long. Imogen took some time off to tour with Frou Frou, and is ready release album number 3. God, how long ago was Garden State? (Hint: the Soundtrack was released 5 years ago tomorrow btw, maybe the best soundtrack this decade) We're getting old.

El mejor!

I've said this before on FB but this song "a gritis de esperanza" by Alex Ubago, been around for awhile in pop latino music, would KILL on Austin pop latino radio like 92.5 and 107.7, which can be a great station with more consistant programming...and I rarely hear this on 107.7, You would have cause a chain reaction of passion that female listeners would sit in their car to hear the end of "a gritos de esperanza!"

Two minute video good for a smile at least.

My video of month choice was a toss up between The 5 year old kid who nails Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and Daughtry singing Lady GaGa "Poker Face." I broke it down this way; "Poker Face" might be the worst song of the year and only sounds good when you're drunk (and then it sounds like a masterpiece). Daughtry...yeah, well if you're a big Daughtry fan, you'll love the video...you should go to YouTube and check it out. But, Chris D. was a tool when he was on our show, so now I just think he's kind of a jerk...so I went with Johnny Cash and the kid. Enjoy!

Why Coke has beat Pepsi for the last 100 years...?

"If it's not broke, don't fix it" has GOT to be the most overused and ACCURATE sayings my parents told me growing up.

M.J.'ed out.

Do you feel like you need a bit of a break from Michael? Wow. I mean, OK. I'm not talking about the actual memorial service, I am talking about the RECAP! As we go through our lives, mostly everything "improves" or gets more "adaptive." Want to see that curve ahead while you're driving down a dark, twisting slab of ash fault? Bam, BMW develops adaptive headlights. Remember our parents or grandparents having to get up and change the channel? Bam, remote control. Don't want to take a birth control pill every day? Bam, wear the birth control patch! I know that I'm jumping around here, but you get the idea. Anything we do over and over again, like driving...changing TV channels...or sex, gets researched, analyzed, and finally, improved. Everything except television media! Seriously, who is in charge here? Is it Phil Griffen, President at MSNBC? Is Sean Hannityreally editing his whole show around an MJ recap? This just in...we don't NEED complete coverage anymore. We've got a million chances to TIVO, DVR, download, surf the 'net, or, yes actually view in real time, MJ's big going away party. And, I'm just guessing here, that there will be about 1000 "tributes" to Michael DVDs available to buy with your Chase Card with a 29% interest rate, by this weekend. So, why does network cable TV do this to us, even when we are screaming in all the pop culture polls that we've had enough? Is it the same reason radio stations play the same 15 songs over and over again? Frequency. Smart media programmers know that just when we say we're REALLY TIRED of something...it really means we know, we identify with it, we crave it. Frequency. Bombard the bastards with the same story, the same jingle, the same P!NK song. until they throw up they're hands and surrender. Next time some geeky, monotoned researcher calls and asks you to participate in a "survey" for radio listening or TV viewing, tell them, "hey, I just watched 12 straight hours of continuous Michael Jackson coverage...bring it on baby!"

Another B&C Show flahback....

Marie (MAR-ree-ay) Digby, best known for her you tube remake of Rhianna's Umbrella, made it onto our show last year when she was in town opening for Brett Dennen (oddly enough) and sounded great in studio with the B&C Show. Here's a clip of that interview and "Umbrella"...ella..ella.You can see Marie's Japanese website here, which is pretty cool.

Jagged Little Pill...

Like I mentioned on our B&C Show today, I have had a sleeping problem for years and for a long time I had been keeping my weird stories about what has happened to me while on Ambien CR to myself and just a few close friends. After I finally decided to talk about my problems with Ambien on the show today, I was blown away by the response we got for hours on the request line (512.390.5947). I was always aware on the side effects of Ambien and read some of the scary sleep-driving stories of people who take Ambien in the New York Times.
But not until I brought this up on our show today, did it really hit me...I need to stop taking this sleep med! We got calls that never made it on the air today, simply b/c there wasn't enough time, from listeners that had gotten DWI's while on Ambien, had sex without realizing it, even one woman who had siad her uncle committed suicide while on the sleep drug! I've been online looking at even more Ambien nightmare stories and now I'm wide awake with the reality that Ambien is probably not for me. Check out some of our listener responses here. Maybe you have a story about Ambien...write me! Thanks.

Every dog has his day...

Saw online earlier today that the world's oldest dog is celebrating her 21st birthday with a party in New York at a dog hotel and spa...crazy!

Denice Shaughnessy of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., said her dachshund, Chanel, would celebrate 21 years -- 147 dog years -- at a party in New York's Manhattan borough with a few of her closest canine comrades. Chanel was crowned world's oldest dog by Guinness Book of World Records after a 28 year old Beagle kicked the bucket last year. A great site for figuring your dogs age based on years, weight, and breed is here. According to this chart, my airedale, Blaze (who looks exactly like the airdale in this picture, is 62...crap! Maybe I should get her a doggie AARP card.

My weekend take...

Friday night's Death Cab show at Austin Music Hall was the best people watching you could get this weekend in Austin, and Ben Gibbard, lead singer was on!...Mike Super's Illusionist show at The Paramount was amazing. Very cool to see it at The Paramount vs. some specially built Vegas stage with custom lighting, etc. The motorcycle stunt was c-r-a-z-y. Can't wait for Mike Super's show in January '10...Planet Cancer party at The Monarch Saturday night was off the hook! It was the Flamingo A GoGo Party and it rocked, way cooler than the past parties at The Monarch. You should volunteer for next years' event here if you are interested being apart of something very cool helping people in their 20's & 30's with Cancer. Next year I'll have to wear a pink Izod...get the "flock" outta here...Sunday at the lake was relaxing with great weather...Sunday night on the patio at The Belmont was perfect, those steak fajita apps and mussels rock...how was YOUR weekend? Write me back!

No Doubt fans!

I'm still a No Doubt fan even though they've kind of turned into a "chick" band...hey, I'm the only guy on the B&C Show, but it's cool. Gwen and the band are live on The Today Show tomorrow morning to kick off the "Summer Concert Series." Check it out!

Wallstreet 2 is gonna happen.

Michael Douglas is going to star in the sequel to Wallstreet 22 years later! He broke the news on Ellen this morning. Oliver Stone is going to do the movie too. The info is on THR here. Ellen is doing her 999th show tomorrow by the way. Pretty cool.

Super-man!

We had Mike Super, the guy who won $250,000 first place on Phenomenon today. and he pulled off an amazing stunt & actually possessed me! Follow him on twitter or search for him on Facebook. 100% real! We'll have video to post on Mix tomorrow. I was blown away!

Our 10 fashion FADS that need to come back...

Today on the B&C Show @ 5:30, we'll give you our list of the 10 Fashion Fads that need to make a come back. Why? Because it's so stupid, it's funny. Plus our top ten "come back" list would fly here in Austin, since it's all about "keepin it weird." Hypercolor T-shirts? Isn't someone still selling these at some funky retro store down in SOCO?

Dog Overboard!

By now you might of heard the story about my airedale, Blaze falling overboard from my friend Mike (who owns the best dating site in Austin) boat this past Saturday at Lake Travis! It was crazy and I would have probably not have been so lucky if it weren't for Kirsten, Lisa, and the other 7 terrific people that were several hundred yards behind our boat and saw Blaze fall into the middle of Lake Travis, then circle around to save her! My dog is everything to me...I have no kids, not married (I've heard you need to get a girlfriend before you can do that married thing), no family in Texas...so Blaze is pretty important to me. From now on I'm grabbing an animal life perserver before we hit the lake this summer. Serious.

My Mom would have ended up in JAIL!...

When I read the story online today about the 45 year old New York woman who kicked both her 10 and 12 year old girls out of her car yesterday, for excessive shenanigans, the first thing that went through my mind was a memory of of MY mom kicking me out of her car for being a brat when I was 9 or 10. Granted, she dropped me off in front of a kindergarden playschool, but it was miles from my house, and she didn't get out to tell anyone what she was doing, just left me in the parking lot. It took me about 60 seconds to realize....holy crap...my mom is leaving me here! I better get it together and hope she comes back!! After driving around the block for 2-3 minutes she pulled up, rolled down the window, and looked down at my over her sunglasses and said, "well? are you going to behave?" I like the blog on The Washington Post and I agree that the Mom, who's already been arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and held in jail overnight. Ms. Primoff, a partner specializing in international finance with the firm Kaye Scholer, is free on $1,500 bail and due back in court on May 21." (Even barred from seeing her kids for a day, until that was lifted by a judge today) should have circled back in 5-10 minutes and picked her kids back up...who knows?? maybe she was on her way to do that...but, I agree there's gotta be laws to protect kids. Here's my point, this woman is gonna get scrutinized and raked over the coals on every major media show over the next week, but my Mom practically did the same thing to me to teach me a lession when I was a kid, and guess what?...I turned out O.K. What about you? What do you do to deal with your kids when they act up? Peace, Carey

James Morrison in our MIX Lounge Friday...

Lots of you reading this have been turned onto cool artists through our MIX private listener lounges over the past years, some of my favorites have been Matt Nathanson, Joshua Radin, Agustana, Sara Bareillis. I'm pumped about James Morrison coming in for a MIX TEXT WITH BENEFITS lounge thsi Friday at 1pm. Check out my favorite Morrison song here. With over 2.5 million views on you tube this artist is for real! He's been compared to James Blunt, but I think he sounds way more like a soulful Lenny Kravitz. Anyway, our MIX lounge is private, but you can win tickets to it by clicking on our the Friends With Benefits banner on our home page.

Cool cakes in Austin...

Over the weekend I made it ouut to the Hill Country Wine & Food Fest, and met Stacey inside one of the wine & food tents Stacey listens to our show and has this cool company called http://www.cakebybridges.com/. After I unglued myself from her food booth (her "call balls" are sort of the size of a truffle with the taste of chocolate, vanilla, lemon, and liquour filled cake!) I gave her my business card and she emailed me today. She does catering too, and some of her wedding cake creations are really unique. If you or a friend have a wedding coming this summer, you should check her stuff, and tell her you saw it on my blog!

Wanna win a $5000 shopping spree? I know you do.

TLC's Clinton Kelly popping up on our show soon. He's on his big Make Over America tour with Macy's and Austin is his only Texas-sized stop. Macy's at The Domain will host his stop in A-town. Check back here or follow us on twitter here and check out how to win that $5000 shopping nirvana and a complete head to toe makeover right here!

Older Idols...

This is a great link to see 47 year old Susan Boyle rip it up on "Britian's Got Talent." it's the British version of Idol here, and this lady makes another case for a 30+ Idol version here in the states. I, for one, think the current Idol format is a bit played out. There's lots of 30 and 40 year olds that are marketable and could have a huge impact on helping to create new music stars for our generation. What do you think?

Wacky MIX video of the day.

Plus, you can always hear audio you might have missed about tight weekend events around town on Matt's site. Check it!

Mmmmm....Bacon!

I'got the perfect cure for a hangover! Not that I've had a hangover recently, or anything...if you're reading this, you weren't over in my neighborhood at Vino Vino watching me drink a half bottle of wine last night? No? Good, cause that wasn't me. Anyway...the latest from researchers suggests you sizzle up the bacon after a long happy hour that lasted way more than an hour. "Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein, which breaks down into amino acids. Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good."

Ms Roberts told The Mirror: "Bingeing on alcohol depletes neurotransmitters too, but bacon contains a high level of aminos which tops these up, giving you a clearer head."

Researchers also found a complex chemical interaction in the cooking of bacon produces the winning combination of taste and smell which is almost irresistible.

The reaction between amino acids in the bacon and reducing sugars in the fat is what provides the sandwich with its appeal.

I love it when artists reach out and do something for someone else, something that they don't need to do because it looks good on their Facebook page, or becuase E Online is going to pick it up and do a story on it. The United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, a global, grassroots initiative to prevent malaria is raising tons of money because Gavin De Graw and TV star Tom Cavanaugh. Gavin recenly said “After being driven from their homes due to violent conflict, millions of refugees in Africa now face another harrowing threat, malaria. These bed nets can help stop the suffering faced by so many.” The beds are only $10 per kid. God, I spend $10 on snack mix at Central Market! I am going to donate something because after seeing the effort these guys are putting in, it makes sense. Malaria is the #1 liller of refugees in Africa. These special "netting beds" are for refugees living in 27 refugee camps in Uganda, Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania, where the malaria burden is highest among African camps. Monday at 5:30pm on the Bridget & Carey show we'll be talking to Gavin about his music, tour, his cause, and, or course his MIX concert at The Parish on 6th Street, downtown. By the way the opening act Angel Taylor is a fresh new artist whose 5 song EP has been available on iTunes for about 5-6 days now. You should show up early to see Angel.

Back from the left coast.

Cali was a blast. You know when you haven't had a vacation for almost a year and you get the chance to get away? Feels great. Everyone needs to disconnect for a few days. I love the beach or anywhere there's a bigger body of water than my bathtub. I found a great condo beach house in Hermosa Beach that is perfect for beach lovers. Go to www.beach-house.com/hermosa if you are ever looking for a getaway on the California Coast. I highly recommend Hermosa Beach! It's the right spot for a great beach town that's close enough to the action of L.A. in southern California. Here's me near the Promenade in Santa Monica. Now that I'm back to A town I already miss that sand in my shoes!

Queen Elizabeth's IPOD loaded with crap!

By now you might have heard the Prez gave Queen Elizabeth 2 an IPOD for a gift as he is touring England on the latest Presidental trip...cool, but can't see the Queen hitting the gym with the Ipod armband and these showtunes...but it's for real.

Fore! ...Wacky Austin Weather.

My friend Ritchie just posted this on my Facebook page. About an hour ago in this crazy Austin weather!

All American rejects on Jimmy Fallon tonite...

Really like the new All American Rejects CD. It's one of the top five CD's in my car right now.

Down-sizing!

Amazing covershot of Valerie Bertinelli on the front of the new People shows Eddie Van's ex downsizing from a size 14 to a size 8! According to the story Valerie weighed in at 172 on a 5' 2" frame at her biggest. i know that Celebrities get touched up on these magazines, but she looks amazing for 48....or 38...or 28!! Valerie can still rock it.

Belinda Carlisle gets the heave ho!

My take on Dancing With The Stars last night...

It's got to be a bit of an ego hit to be one the first celebs to be tossed from DWTS and last night Belinda Carlisle drew the short stick with the judges.

Jewel may not be dancing, but she's still on the show. Last night she got to sing "Over The Rainbow" from her new album, which, of course, had nothing to do with "dancing!"

Melissa from The Bachelor is a lock to go the distance on this show, her boyfriend Ty Strickland is still camped out in the audience cheering her on too.

If only this was TV...

Our producer Cassiday can not just come to work dressed "normal" for ANY holiday. St. Patty's day around here is never boring on the B&C Show.

Happy St. Patrick's Day with a great John Mayer song

Lyrically this Mayer song nails it when it comes to fall-winter-spring relationships. I think I'm going to blast this song on the way home from work tonight!

Tyler Florence on the B&C Show!

If you're a fan of the Food Network, you were excited as we were when Tyler Florence dropped by the B&C Show today to stir it up! Tyler was in Austin for the day for quick promotional run to HEB Central Market Stores on North Lamar and in Westlake to pimp his new books and new line of Organic baby food called Sprout. This guy has way too much going on with two new books (Stirring The Pot & Dinner At My Place) a wine store, videos, kitchens, etc., plus a wife and a kid! Tyler lit up our phones and gave a way multiple autographed copies of his books and...what else, baby food! This guy had more energy than any guest weve had in the studio in years.

Crazy college classes....for real.

We talked about this on the show this afternoon. A listener called in from Southwestern in Georgetown) called "Midevil Beast Stables" LOL!!

These are real courses at some major Universities around the country.

The 15 Strangest College Courses In America:
15. Arguing with Judge Judy: Popular 'Logic' on TV Judge Shows
(University of California, Berkeley)

14. Underwater Basket Weaving (University of California, San Diego)

13. Learning From YouTube (Pitzer College)

12. Philosophy and Star Trek (Georgetown University)

11. The Art of Walking (Centre College, Danville, KY)

10. Daytime Serials: Family and Social Roles (University of Wisconsin)

9. Joy of Garbage (Santa Clara University)

8. The Science of Superheroes (University of California at Irvine)

7. Zombies in Popular Media (Columbia College, Chicago)

6. The Science of Harry Potter (Frostburg State University)

5. Cyberporn and Society (State University of New York at Buffalo)

4. Simpsons and Philosophy (University of California-Berkeley

3. Far Side Entomology (Oregon State)

2. Myth and Science Fiction: Star Wars, The Matrix, and Lord of
the Rings (Centre College, Danville, KY)

1. The Strategy of StarCraft (University of California, Berkley)

My pick to win Dancing With The Stars...

Shawn Johnson is the chick to beat on DWTS, although I do think Melissa (Bachelor) Rycroft will make it close. OK, can we save the next 45 weeks of build up now, and declare the winner? Yeah, I guess not. That is a complete Reality TV Show fantasy for me though. Give everyone two shows. Vote off half the contestants after the first show. Makes a second show a real finale and kick off everyone but two couples after the first hour...then let the final two couples go at it for 60minutes!

New Star Trek May 8, 2009

Check out the exclusive trailer link here. part of me wants to make fun of "Trekkies" and part of me wants to see this flick. Not going to stand in line at mdnight though, sorry.

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel, Jason, America's most hated bachelor talked about why he flip-flopped back to Molly. OK, Molly? Really. Forget the whole arguement about it being wrong to give one girl a ring, then blow her ego out of the water on national TV. The bottom line is that Melissa is WAY hotter than Molly. This Jason guy is an idiot! And, by the way, Jason said that Molly did know what was up before the show last night because he was contractually able to break up with her by phone before dropping the bomb live on ABC in prime time. Nice guy.

Getting barreled over.

Over the weekend, I met some interesting people at the Austin Art Wine Party downtown during the afterparty at Mellow Johnny's and learned about the cool art project called Barrels Across Texas. Old wine barrels you see in wineries are now on display at many areas merchants, wine bars, and restaurants around Austin. Painted by local and international artists these barrels will be on a big display at the Long Center, April 17, then they'll be auctioned off after the Hill Country Wine & Food Festival in late April. If you want to see some of these great original pieces of art go to www.barrelsovertexas.com for a look at the barrels and the artists behind them.

Thanks to the AWRT one more time.

Just wanted to say thanks to the A.W.R.T. (American Women In Radio & Television) for including me in the 8th Annual Sweetheart Bachelor Auction a couple weeks ago at QUA. The event was a big success, thanks to everyone who showed up bid on me! My buddy Luisa Muaro of Marathon Realty in Austin had the winning bid. Here I am hanging out with my friend Roxanne Wilson after my dorky "runway" experience.

Last chance to stock up on pure nirvana...

Girl Scout cookies. They make life worth living. And this Friday is your last chance to get 'em. KXAN ran this story earlier today, and here's the website JUST in case you don't run into a girl scout or her mom in the next 72 hours. http://www.gsctx.org/

Shot of the year...too bad it didn't count!

The NBA needs more incredible stars like Dwight Howard. This shot is rediculous. This 75 foot "no look" shot happened during pregame warm ups and just happened to be captured on national TV. Pretty cool.

My Fav 5 wierdest Oscar Moments.

Honestly, I think the Academy Awards were kinda boring last night. Is this really the best Hollywood can come up with for their biggest night of the year? I mean, as usual, it was well produced visually, but I'm over seeing Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet interviewing the stars. It's so...uncomfortable. Ryan is a bizillionaire, semi-talented, and very connected, but he's so damn predictable...and boring. What's my fav 5 weird Oscar moments from last night you ask?...What? You're not asking? OK. Sorry, but I'm going to tell you anyway.
1) Sophia Loren. Really?
2) Why did the show producers splice in so many OLDER movies during the movie of the year clip roll. Confusing.
3) Mickey Rourke. He's awesome, but he looks like a wax figure.
4) Hugh Jackman shaking everyone's hands in the entire first 10 rows. Is this really necessary. Do we care?
5) As usual the show was a whopping 30 minutes over, clocking in at 3:30. That's even longer than Benjamin Button. God!
Carey
P.S. On a possitive note, Jerry Lewis, who is close to his MID 80's, made a great seamless, passionate speech as he accepted the humanitarian award for charitible contributions. This guy has raised more than 2 BIL for MDA and is still the living benchmark for comedy team duos everywhere. Think Farley & Spade are funny? See Martin & Lewis (Jerry Lewis (still living), Dean Martin (dead, but eternally cool).

Clipping Vitual Coupons more popular than ever...

There are tons of on line coupons these days and one of my favorite sites is http://www.wow-coupons.com/all-printable-retail-coupons.php where you can scans tons on stores you actually use. Now, instead of saving those mailbox cardbox coupons you sift though every night after work, you can hit print and keep these babies in your glovebox.

Here's video from News8 Austin site of that crazy meteorite that fell from the sky last Sunday morning over Austin at http://news8austin.com/shared/video/video_pop.asp?destlist=62241

Pieces of that fireball could be worth more than your 401K if you find one!

Manscaping on the B&C Show...

Got an email from B&C listener that said her husband went to go see The Wrestler with her over the weekend and was some impressed by the hairless wrestler dudes, he shaved ALL the air of his bod. Most womean believe in "some" manscaping, but how many want a completely hairless guy? Amazing enough, our on air poll today 40% of our female listeners want the hair gone completely...as in everywhere completely. Wow, we took our first 50 callers and got a great response!

I cannot get this song OUT of my head...Bridgets' never even heard it before!

Where was Chris Brown & Rhianna last night? Now We Know!!

As Dave Itzkoff noted this morning on The Times’ Arts Beat blog, “The R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested Sunday and charged with making criminal threats,” which explained why he failed to show up for a scheduled appearance at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards show.

A Los Angeles Times blog, L.A. Now reported on Sunday night that the person he is accused of threatening is his girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, who also backed out of an appearance at the awards show:

R&B singer Chris Brown, one of the biggest-selling performers in pop music, was booked tonight in Los Angeles on charges stemming from an alleged assault on his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to police and other sources familiar with the investigation.

An official police statement did not name Rihanna, but said the woman in the incident “suffered visible injuries.”

Details of what took place between the two were sketchy, but authorities and sources said that about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Brown and a woman got into an argument in a rented Lamborghini on North June Street in Hancock Park. Brown stopped the car, the two got out, and the argument escalated. A witness called 911, but police said Brown was gone by the time officers arrived at the scene. The woman identified Brown as her assailant. [...]

The sources said the woman was Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

E Online’s Marcus Errico has also reported that “sources tell E! News that the alleged victim was Rihanna, 20.” According Mr. Errico, at least one member of the Los Angeles Police Department was impressed by Mr. Brown during his arrest:

Brown, 19, turned himself in at the LAPD’s Wilshire station around 6:30 p.m. and was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of four years. The case will now be sent to the district attorney’s office and further charges could be filed. He was released from jail after posting $50,000 bail.

“He was very professional and didn’t appear to have injuries,” said Sgt. Bridget Pickett, adding, “He’s a good looking young man.”

Rolling Stone, which also reports that unnamed sources say that Rihanna was the victim, report that one of Mr. Brown’s friends was quick to defend him as the news broke:

The news sent shockwaves through the Staples Center as Grammy attendees slowly received word of Brown’s arrest. When asked if this incident sounds like Chris Brown to him, rapper David Banner told RS, “No, not at all. One situation doesn’t define a man and I really want America to stop doing that to people. As humans, none of us is perfect.”

U2 EVERYWHERE

Last night's opening to The 51st Annual Grammy's was hot. The new U2 album is out soon. How do these guys stay so relevant after all the years? I don't think we'll see another band have more influence musically on our generation. Here's the link for the NBA All Star TV Spot that aired over the weekend too http://www.vidiots.tv/espnu2/U2 open v3.mov

• How about all the celebrities step away from Twitter. First Demi and Ashton decided to clog up our homepage with nonsense, then Erykah Badu had to go labor Twitter, and now John Mayer is being all jokey about welding an engagement ring for you-know-who. It's too much!

• Emma Roberts says it's hard going from child actor to grown-up actor. If you don't watch out, you'll end up like Lindsay Lohan, someone Emma finds "hard to take seriously." Hotel for Dogs ought to help her on this quest.

• In other Emma news, Harry Potter's Emma Watson is equally confused about growing up. "I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing," she tells U.K.'s Mail on Sunday's Live magazine. Also, the minute she turned 18, paparazzi were all about the upskirt shots, which is really creepy.

• No one sits Lindsay Lohan in the back of the plane, no matter how much in-flight entertainment it may provide

157 seconds away from glory.

I was born, raised, and when to college in Arizona...so for me yesterday's Super Bowl loss by the AZ Cardinals was a huge kick in the gut. Anyone who loves sports or is a superfan of a school or share a birthplace with a sports team knows what I am talking about. To be 157 seconds away from walking off the field with the biggest trophy in sports...only to lose it 122 second later...is inconsolable.
Regardless, here's my top 5 bittersweet moments of Superbowl:

#1 Jennifer Hudson's Star Spangle Banner. I mean her mother, brother, and newphew just got murdered a few moths ago..yet she rocked the house. Amazing.
#2 Kurt Warner's pass to Larry Fitzgerald for a miracle TD with a few minutes left.
#3 Springsteen's crotch sliding move into on stage cameras.
#4 Kurt Warner 100 yard mistake as time ran out in the 1st half.
#5 The Doritos "Snow Globe" spot. Ouch!

Did you know your BAIL OUT $$ was going to the Super Bowl?!

Check this out... ABC News has reported that Bank of America, recipient of $45 BILLION in taxpayer bail-out dollars, spent about $10 million on the Super Bowl as "the official bank of the NFL," including corporate sponsorships, events, and on one of those happy, festive, Super Bowl party tents that go for about a million bucks each.

I'm sure that everyone had a lovely time.

A bank official said that the NFL partnership generates "revenue streams."
Ahh yeah...and you and me are left "up the creek without a paddle."

PORN interupts the Super Bowl!? TRUE!

Porn interrupts final three minutes of Super Bowl in Tucson

A Comcast spokesperson said the company is working to determine what happened.
Monday, February 2, 2009
VIDEO: Comcast takes blame for Super Bowl smut
(KNST Tuscon) A Tucson television station's broadcast of the Super Bowl on Sunday was interrupted for some viewers by about 10 seconds of pornographic material, the station said.

KVOA TV in Tucson released a statement saying that the only viewers who were able to see the material were those who receive the channel through Comcast cable.

"When the NBC feed of the Super Bowl was transmitted from KVOA to local cable providers and through over-the-air antennas, there was no pornographic material," KVOA president and general manager Gary Nielsen said in a statement.

The KVOA statement said the station was dismayed and disappointed that some Comcast customers and their families were subjected to the material.

"KVOA will continue to investigate what happened to our clean signal and make sure our viewers get answers," Nielsen said in the statement.

Comcast spokeswoman Tracy Baumgartner confirmed that the company's standard feed was interrupted during the Super Bowl, although she said its high definition feed was not.

Baumgartner said engineers were investigating Sunday night.

Tucson media outlets reported that they received calls from irate viewers about the pornographic material.

A spokesman for Cox Cable said the company had not been affected.

"We have received no evidence that any inappropriate material was broadcast on any of our channels during the Super Bowl," Mike Dunne said. "The alleged incident appears to be isolated to the Comcast territory. We will offer our support to all appropriate organizations to help them determine what happened."

Joel Hilander of Tucson told The Associated Press that he and his young children saw the clip.

"I couldn't believe it. And I couldn't believe that my children were watching it either," Hilander said.

He said the interruption came just after the Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald scored on a long touchdown reception during the final minutes of the game.

I still think the Dallas Girl's varisty coach got screwed!

We talked about on our show today and I'm still fuming about that Dallas High school Varsity coach getting fired for not apologizing after his girls team beat Dallas Academy 100-0! http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/012209dnsposhutout.40d72ee.html
Why?! does it say somewhere in the rules in Dallas varsity basketball that you can't win by 100 points? Would this every happen if the "boys" b-ball team won 100-0? Initially, the winning coach, Micah Grimes said his team winning by 100 was "regretable" and would look for a future solution to prevent this from happening again, BUT, because he wouldn't apologize to the other team in an official statement, he was fired! Why? The same thing practically happened 9 days ago when the Lady Jaquars of LBJ beat Lanier HS 107-11!! Here's the box score quarter by quarter!
LBJ 107, Lanier 11
1 2 3 4 OT T
Lanier 2 4 3 2 — 11
LBJ 35 27 22 23 — 107
Above is a team pic of yourrrrr Lady Jags! What's wrong with playing hard until the final buzzer?! Go Jags!
Peace,
Carey

Do you have a girl brain or a boy brain? Pretty cool.

I took the test and here's the results...40% female, man I have serious gender issues! I'm getting Bridget to take this test and we're going to talk about it on the show today.

Your Brain is 40% Female, 60% Male

You have a total boy brain

Logical and detailed, you tend to look at the facts

And while your emotions do sway you sometimes...

You never like to get feelings too involved

You won't find these CD's at Waterloo Records...hopefully!

10 Worst Celebrity Albums

Forget sex tapes, sometimes a CD is the most embarrassing thing a celebrity can release.
10. The Return of Bruno by Bruce Willis

Remember when the hard-to-kill action hero moonlighted as a blues singer. Know what would give us the blues? A 28-year old doofus marrying our hot ex-wife.

Sample Lyric: “Keep talking about the president / Wont stop air pollution / Put your hand over your mouth / When you cough / That’ll help the solution.”

———————————————————————————–

9. My World by Ron Artest

After Ron Ron’s angry debut sold only 343 copies its first week, he officially became the NBA’s worst rapper. Shaq is off the hook.

Sample Lyric: “Matt Lauer, up on NBC. You look like a girl don’t talk to me.”

———————————————————————————–

8. Mojo Priest by Steven Seagal

Think The Glimmer Man is the worst thing Steven Seagal ever attached his name to? Then you haven’t heard this 2006 album. Apologies are in order for this washed up action star-turned-environmentalist. How many trees were destroyed to make his acoustic guitar?

Sample Lyric: “Someone took me to a restaurant and I had to eat something fast / I ordered me some chicken / They gave me alligator ass.”

———————————————————————————–

7. Wicked Wisdom by Wicked Wisdom

As Jada Koren, front woman of Wicked Wisdom, Will’s wifey, Jada Pinkett Smith, screeches over brutal hardcore metal. Emphasis on the brutal.

Sample Lyric: “You fear me I fear you / We have no idea why that’s true / Except the fact someone told us to.”

———————————————————————————–

6. How Could It Be by Eddie Murphy

Call this a missed opportunity: A Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate album would have done Jamie Foxx numbers. The only positive to come out of this collaboration between Eddie Murphy and Rick James was a Chappelle’s Show sketch 20 years later.

Sample Lyric: “My girl wants to party all the time. Party all the time. Party all the time.”

5. David Hasselhoff by David Hasselhoff

While never a pop star in America, the Baywatch boss claims his pop songs help bring down the Berlin Wall. He also eats hamburgers off the floor of Vegas hotel rooms. When he’s drunk. And has his daughter videotape it.

Sample Lyric: “When life is getting to me / I’m sad and gloomy/ All I have to do is play some rock ‘n roll.”

———————————————————————————–

4. Here to Heaven by Jamie-Lynn Sigler

Hot actress (with mob ties) warbles her way through her first (and only) album, Here to Heaven.

Sample Lyric: “Its one thing to ask why do we break up/ Have you ever wondered why it is we fall in love?”

———————————————————————————–

3. Prime Time by Deion Sanders

After succeeding in two professional sports, Deion was convinced he could do it all. He was wrong. His Hammer-lite rap single, “Must Be the Money,” was corny, unoriginal and disgustingly ostentatious. But hey, at least he didn’t go bankrupt.

Sample Lyric: “Diamond Rolex, with ‘gators on my feet / I got two pair for every day of the week / My hair is done, my fingernails too / Six buttons down and I don’t know what to do.”

———————————————————————————–

2. Baby Woman by Naomi Campbell

Hot model (with anger issues) warbles her way though her first (and only) album, Baby Woman. The record’s failure proved she should stick to what she does best—like beating up maids.

Sample Lyric: “I want to know how to separate love and tears.”

———————————————————————————–

1. Let’s Go Bang by Jennifer Love Hewitt

Hot actress (who sees dead people) warbles her way though five, yes five, albums. The standout, however, is the subtly titled 1995 release, Let’s Go Bang. Of course, like nearly every other American actor-turned-singer, she’s big in Japan.

Sample Lyric: “Let’s go bang / I wanna go bang / Let’s go bang / I wanna go bang.”

New Internet Virus: Heads up!

The latest attack is a worm called Downandup, Downadup, Kido!, or Conficker (all the same thing), and it primarily seems to be being delivered via infected USB drives.

How's it work? By tricking you into running the virus by modifying the way "autorun" works when you plug in a drive. Look closely at the screenshot above and you'll see two entries for "Open folder to view files." The one at the top is a phony entry that actually installs the virus on your machine... but of course it's the default selection that pops up when you plug in a drive. Once installed, the virus spreads like crazy via a separate flaw in Windows networking system (now patched, so be sure to run Windows Update if you haven't lately) and can quickly infect a whole office. F-Secure has more analysis on the clever way it tricks you into installing the malware yourself.

How bad has it gotten? Estimates range from 3.5 million infected in the first four days after it bean spreading to 9 million impacted... and gettng worse. By now I figure the numbers could top 15 or 20 million.

Your best strategy for avoiding Downandup? Turn off AutoPlay/AutoRun on your computer (with Windows XP, TweakUI is the easiest way to do it). If you do see an AutoPlay dialog box like the one above, just close it and eject the disc or thumbdrive; browsing the drive manually for individual files should keep you uninfected, but you're best off not using the drive at all. Has this happened to you? I would love to hear from you, or call the show at 512.390.5947 when we're on later today from 3-7pm. Thanks for listening! Carey

Top 5 most dangerous sports for your kid.

If you're a nervous mom or dad when you kids gets old enough to pick up the sports gear and starts playing sports you might want to know about the Top 5 Most Dangerous Sports for Kids. Are you ready?
1. Basketball
More than half a million kids went to the ER in just one year with injuries sustained playing hoops. Damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, is a common injury and any sport involving twisting, jumping, pivoting, squatting, or making sudden stops puts kids at risk. Proper coaching is a must.

2. Bicycling
Yes, that favorite pastime sent more kids—485,669 to be exact—to the ER than football. Wearing a helmet greatly reduces risk as does educating children about the dangers of riding in traffic.

3. Football
This sport sent more than 418,200 kids to the ER. Sports injury statistics vary based on methodology, and the Center for Injury Research and Policy found football to be the leading cause of sports-related injuries among kids.

4. Soccer
The ball is soft, but the sport can be dangerous, with about 175,000 soccer-playing kids seeking aid at an ER. One culprit is portable soccer goals, which should be securely anchored to the ground.

5. Baseball
Today’s kids train hard and hit the ball hard, which is why some 155,000 Little Leaguers ended up in emergency rooms. Children should wear proper protective gear and be taught how to safely slide into bases and other fundamentals. With all warm-weather sports, heat exhaustion is also a threat.

And "hockey" didn't make the list? Wow.

Swearing in goof up.

OK...I know everyone was nervous and all that, and yes, I'm a Barack supporter...but come on, the whole swearing in thing is 2 minutes long..rehearse it maybe once before you do it in front of 5 billion peeps! Oh well.

O.K. So I'm not a big "strip Club Rock song" guy, I usually prefer the singer-songwriter finese of Matt nathanson or the explosive Power Pop of a Keane, Jimmy Eat World, or U2...but I dig this track by Theory Of A Deadman! And...I'm blogging about it because we're talking to lead singer Tyler on our show Friday afternoon at about 4:45pm. Tyler is a cool guy and a friend of the show, so check out the interview. See you the radio. Peace, Carey

There's a new addition to Miniland at Legoland California, but it will be there only from Friday, Jan. 16 through Memorial Day. We talked to the guy that put it all together, Gary McIntyer live from LEGOLAND today on the show! There are more pics of this amazing work up on our www.mix947.com on the "B&C Page."

Yep, it's the Presidential inauguration of Barack Obama.

The inauguration scene will be placed on the steps of the Miniland U.S. Capitol and will include Obama and his family, Joe Biden, Bush, Cheney and other participants, including Rick Warren, Itzhak Perlman and the U.S. Marine Corps Band, according to a Legoland press release.

Be sure to check out the crowd, too. Legoland promises that a Lego Oprah Winfrey will be among the assembled onlookers

I can't really tell you why I am posting this video that shows what happens when you put a lighter into a blender and turn it on, other than...um, I'm a guy...and sometimes' guys love to see dumb stuff happen. O.K. I feel like a caveman now, but seriously...

I discovered a great B&B in Fredricksburg!

I decided to get away for a weekend in Fredricksburg for New Years and stumbled onto this really cool Bed & Breakfast called The Cameron Inn. It just opened and is completely renevated with new construction, modern convienences, and the location is killer, a few feet off Main Street with walking distance to everything! This is the best B&B I have ever stayed in, no kidding. The website is http://www.travelmainstreet.com/cameron-inn/This place is perfect for an overnight on the way to Enchanted Rock. Let me know if you get a chance to check it out. Stay in the "Blue Room!" It's the best.
